A Message from The Executive Director

Brothers and Sisters,

My name is Scott Crowley, and I am honored to serve as the Executive Director of the Arizona Firefighter Foundation.

I am a 27-year veteran of the Phoenix Fire Department and currently serve as Battalion Chief of Battalion 7. Prior to my fire service career, I proudly served our nation in the United States Navy during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Eastern Exit. Throughout my career, I have remained committed to public service, leadership, and advocacy for those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Labor Studies from National Labor College and a Master’s Degree in Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Additionally, I spent nearly twenty years serving on the Executive Board of Phoenix Fire Fighters Association Local 493, including service as Secretary, where I worked tirelessly to protect the interests, health, and well-being of Arizona firefighters and their families.

Today, that mission continues through the Arizona Firefighter Foundation.

Every day, more than 9,000 professional firefighters across Arizona answer the call to serve their communities. They respond to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, vehicle accidents, and countless other crises. They willingly run toward danger when others are running away. While the public often sees the courage displayed on emergency scenes, what is less visible are the long-term consequences of a career spent protecting others.

Firefighters face repeated exposure to cancer-causing toxins, traumatic incidents, and occupational hazards that continue long after an emergency ends. Cancer rates among firefighters continue to rise, and many firefighters and their families face significant challenges when seeking the benefits and support they have earned through years of service. Mental health injuries resulting from cumulative exposure to tragedy and human suffering are also affecting firefighters at unprecedented levels.

The Arizona Firefighter Foundation exists to ensure that no firefighter or family faces these challenges alone. We are not simply a fundraising organization—we are a direct-service organization dedicated to supporting firefighters diagnosed with occupational cancer, assisting those struggling with mental health challenges, providing financial support to families following line-of-duty deaths, and advocating for firefighters when they need help navigating complex systems and claims processes.

Our commitment is simple: to stand beside Arizona firefighters and their families during the moments they need support most.

As Executive Director, I am proud to work alongside dedicated professionals, labor leaders, community partners, and supporters who believe that we must never hesitate to protect those who protect us. Together, we can ensure that Arizona’s firefighters receive the care, advocacy, and support they deserve after spending their careers serving others.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the Arizona Firefighter Foundation and the critical work we do. I invite you to join us in supporting Arizona’s firefighters and their families.

Respectfully,

Scott Crowley
